Some Great Last Minute Cheap Holidays
I can’t think of anybody I know, that doesn’t like to take vacations and travel somewhere new and exciting. But, given the current state of the economy and the restrictions on traveling abroad these days, I do know a number of people who aren’t traveling much at all these days. Me for one. And it’s driving me crazy. It’s been quite a while, since I took a really nice long relaxing vacation. And, my kids are getting to an age when it won’t be long before they don’t want to travel as much with Mom and Dad. So, it’s time for me to start looking for some really good cheap holidays. Now, there are a couple of different approaches you can employ when it comes to getting deals on vacations.
One, is to start early. Airlines and hotels, like it when they can sell off all the seats and rooms well ahead of schedule. It’s basically money in the bank for them. They now the can afford to have staff around, have planes around, and just generally better plan the future of their business. So, they will often offer deals to those willing to book in advance. I’d say the earlier the better. A year or so is a good place to start. Now, another approach is to try and save some buck on last minute holidays packages. I personally prefer this approach, for a couple of reasons. One, it means I don’t have to commit early, and make any kind of down payment. I can be flexible with my schedule. Secondly, and more importantly, I believe I have more leverage at this point.
It’s down to the wire for the airlines and hotels at this point, and if they don’t book someone (anyone!) then it’s money out of their pocket. At this point, it better for them to offer me 50%, 75% or better discounts on my travel plans then to have empty rooms and seats. I really believe, that this is the best way to save the most money on your travel plans. Admittedly, you do have to be more flexible on when and where you go, but for me that’s part of the adventure. As far as I’m concerned, as long as I have a passport, I can be anywhere in the world on a moments notice. To me, that’s far more exciting than planning a year ahead the exact details of my destination. But, to each his own.
